Can I still go to Gettysburg National Military Park during the gov. shutdown?

Despite the government shutdown, many attractions in the Gettysburg National Military Park are still open and ready for visitors. 

The federal government shutdown the night of Dec. 23 because Congress and President Trump could not agree on a spending plan, leaving 800,000 government employees without a paycheck for the time being and also halting several federally funded programs such as the National Parks.

However, this only minimally affects Gettysburg.

Many of the roads throughout the battlefield remain open and will operate on the winter schedule of 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. This means that battlefield tours and bus tours are also still operating. 

The park museum and visitor center is owned by the Gettysburg Foundation, so that will continue to operate with regular hours, too.

There are a handful of programs that are closed because of the shutdown: all service programs including The Winter Lecture Series, Reading Adventures for Families, the Battlefield Book Series the Eisenhower National Historic Site, the David Wills House and the Soldiers National Cemetery.

The National Park Service will not be available for public information, trash collection and facilities and road maintenance, including snow plowing.
