Pacers star Victor Oladipo gifts domestic violence survivor with car during game
Victor Oladipo's best assist Sunday wasn't on the court at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The Indiana Pacers star gave his Most Improved Player prize from last season — a brand-new Kia — to Renita Hills, a domestic abuse survivor and employee of the Julian Center, an Indianapolis organization dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
"I've heard part of your story, and I think you’re an inspiration to so many people. And you’re a survivor," Oladipo said in a taped message played during a break in the action against the Washington Wizards. "I love giving back to the community of Indianapolis, so surprise, this car is actually for you."
Pacers mascot Boomer gave Hills the keys and a big hug.
