CHAMBERSBURG -- A building has been demolished to make way for a Wendy's restaurant at 1091 Wayne Ave.

Valenti Development Group got a land use permit on Friday to begin construction of the restaurant. A former Gulf gas station was demolished less than three weeks after Valenti got borough permission on Nov. 27 to tear it down.

The restaurant will be located between Denny’s and Arby’s restaurants and two blocks from the existing Wendy’s, 1001 Wayne Ave. The Wendy's at Wayne and Stouffer avenues was built more than 40 years ago.

A crew from David H. Martin Excavating, Inc., removes the remnants of an old gas station on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 1091 Wayne Avenue. The building has been demolished to make way for a Wendy's restaurant.

The Wendy's at 1001 Wayne Avenue will be moving east, closer to Interstate 81, as long as plans are approved.

Chambersburg town council on Oct. 22 approved a final plan for the 3,215-square-foot restaurant with 19 parking spaces. The plan also splits off a second lot for a 2,125-square-foot building with 11 parking spaces. The second restaurant has not been named.

A single drive will access both restaurants.

The clients of Alabama-based Valenti include Starbucks, KFC and Chili’s.

Wendy's did not respond Friday to a reporter's questions.
