ASA thankful for second round of trade aid

The president of the American Soybean Association says they are pleased the Trump Administration is following through on the second half of the trade aid payments.

Davie Stephens says the announcement gives soybean growers much needed certainty.

“They’ve done what they said they would do from back in the beginning,” he says. “So we’re just trying to move what’s best for the soybean industry and all of agriculture forward.”

He tells Brownfield ASA is also hopeful the initial sales of U.S. soybeans to China is a sign that the trade war is be turning a corner.

“It takes time,” he says. “Good news and better than no news and so I’m glad that something is being done.”

Stephens says ASA continues to advocate for a negotiated solution to the trade war with China.

He says the sooner the market opens, and tariffs are rescinded, the sooner U.S. growers can rebuild exports.
