Local Band Gleewood performs New Year’s Eve at Billy’s Sports Bar

RUIDOSO DOWNS — Billy’s Sports Bar and Grill presents Gleewood, the local band that recently toured Europe, for a special New Year’s Eve performance as part of an exciting night of food, music and fun to ring in 2019.

There is no admission fee.

“We’re looking forward a great night of celebration,” Ruidoso Downs’ General Manager Jeff True said. “We’re offering a great band with no cover charge so we’re looking to pack our sports bar and the Billy the Kid Casino will be open so we’re inviting everyone out to come and join us for a memorable evening.”

Billy’s Sports Bar and Grill features a unique New Year’s Eve dinner that includes a buffet with carved prime rib and shrimp for $24.95 per person. It starts at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Billy the Kid Casino is giving away a new Polaris Razor 570 ATV valued at nearly $14,000. Patrons who play the slot machines can earn drawing tickets and enter to win that evening.

Gleewood takes the stage in the sports bar from 8 p.m. until after midnight. The band — led by the husband/wife team of Jhett and Callie Schiavone — is known for its grooves through blues, folk and rock ‘n roll. Jhett’s bass baritone compliments Callie’s high, clear soprano to feature both covers and songs they’ve written and performed across the country and world for five years. Their release “Sweet, Sweet Time” was nominated for “Best Rock Album of the Year” in 2017.

Gleewood has an enthusiastic local following that haven’t seen the band since they returned from touring Germany, Ireland, Spain, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. They have performed over 1,000 shows while promoting their music and their New Mexican heritage. Both were raised in Lincoln County.

“We’re excited to have a chance to play back home for New Year’s Eve,” Jhett said. “It’s been a long year of travels and experiences, but this show will be special for us because it’s always been about our fans and the music.”

Billy the Kid Casino and Billy’s Sports Bar and Grill are located inside Ruidoso Downs Race Track. Horse Racing begins May 10 and runs through Labor Day, Sept. 2. For more information, go online at raceruidoso.com.
