Global Dairy Trade index up Tuesday

 

The Global Dairy Trade index rose 1.7% in Tuesday morning’s event.  The average price was $2,844 a metric ton.  That’s $25.00 a ton higher than early December and the third straight gain after steadily falling from June through early November.

Whole milk powder accounted for just over half of the product sold and was up three-tenths of a percent at $2,674 a ton, or $1.21 a pound.  Nearly a quarter of sales were skim milk powder, which was up 3.4% to $2,042 a ton, or $.92 cents a pound.

Anhydrous milk fat gained 4% to $4,936 a ton, or $2.23 a pound.  Butter gained 4.9% selling at $3,928 a ton, or $1.78 a pound.  Cheddar cheese was up 2.2% selling at $3,263 a ton or $1.48 a pound.  The index for Rennet Casein dropped 2.1% as a small amount sold for $5,056 a ton or $2.29 a pound.
