A free memorial concert will be held Friday evening at All People's Church in Milwaukee to honor children and young people murdered in the city during 2018.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the church, 2600 N. 2nd St.

The concert will feature musician and spoken word artist Dayvin Hallmon, who will sing and perform on the viola and clarinet, accompanied by Christian Martin on the piano.

The concert will begin with composer and conductor Gustav Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, (Songs on the Death of Children), followed by the hymn "Into Paradise" and conclude with the hymn "Abide With Me".

The names of Milwaukee's young homicide victims will also be read out loud during the program.

"These children are the innocents of Milwaukee," Hallmon said in a news release.

"… Whatever reason your child is missing this Christmas, this concert is for you too."

Hallmon is hoping to mobilize African American string players (violin, viola, cello, double bass/upright bass) for a broader artistic effort to address violence in Milwaukee's black community by inviting them to a meeting at 5 p.m. Jan. 6 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1236 S. Layton Blvd.
