A farm ID’d in romaine outbreak recalls other products

The FDA has traced a multi-state outbreak of E. coli in romaine lettuce to a farm in Santa Barbara, California but says other farms could still be implicated. It says a positive sample result for the outbreak strain was found in an irrigation reservoir on a farm owned and operated by Adam Brothers Farming but that doesn’t fully explain the common source of the contamination.

Adam Brothers is now recalling cauliflower, red leaf lettuce, and green leaf lettuce that might also be contaminated with E. coli but says NONE of those products have tested positive.

The FDA put a nationwide warning in place on November 20th – against eating any romaine lettuce. The investigation is ongoing.

The CDC warns consumers not to buy, serve, sell or eat romaine lettuce from Monterey, San Benito or Santa Barbara Counties in California. If the romaine is NOT labeled with a harvest growing region and county, the CDC says do not buy, serve, sell or eat it.
