Argentine beef is on the way to Miami

Argentina has made its first shipment of beef to the U.S. since 2001.  JBS subsidiary Swift Argentina has sent half of a ton of ribeye steaks to a buyer in Miami, Florida.

U.S. officials approved duty-free Argentine beef imports of up to 20-thousand metric tons a year two weeks ago.  Imports above the quota will have a 26% tariff.

The falling value of the Argentine peso is expected to make their beef attractive on the world market.  Already this year, China has doubled its beef purchases from Argentina.  China’s Ministry of Agriculture confirms they bought more than 96-thousand tons of Argentine beef in the past seven months.
