Q: In Fort Myers will be there be one or two Mellow Mushrooms? I can’t get a straight answer.

A: The second Mellow Mushroom pizzeria in the Fort Myers area opens Monday, Dec. 17, in University Village Shops on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway next to Florida Gulf Coast University. The area’s first location of the popular Atlanta-based pizza chain launched in late August at Daniels Marketplace, the new retail center anchored by Whole Foods Market on the corner of Daniels and Six Mile Cypress parkways in south Fort Myers.

Mellow Mushroom’s Kosmic Karma pizza features a red sauce base with feta and mozzarella cheeses, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and Roma tomatoes with a pesto swirl.

Featuring the brand’s trademark graffiti-inspired murals, mushroom-themed artwork and colorful interiors, Mellow Mushroom offers a bar, open lounge, and indoor and outdoor dining. The restaurant is known for its specialty and signature pizzas made with a spring-water crust and fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Also in University Village Shops, Slicers Hoagies and Get Fried Fry Café are coming to join the many other restaurants and shops already operating there.

William Francis owns and operates Slicers Hoagies, which opened in February in Marquesa Plaza on the southeast corner of Livingston and Pine Ridge roads.

Slicers Hoagies is building out its second location, targeted to open March 1 in the unit between The Shaved Ice Bar and the F45 Training fitness franchise.

Naples resident Billy Francis launched his local sandwich shop in February 2017 in Marquesa Plaza on the southeast corner of Livingston and Pine Ridge roads in Collier County. The new Lee County location will be a chance for Francis to achieve the slick store design he originally wanted for his first one, he said.

“This second location will be our model store for others to come,” Francis said.

The Slicer — ham, turkey and roast beef — is served on white bread wrapped around American cheese, mayo, lettuce, banana peppers and tomatoes.

Meanwhile, Get Fried is a new fast-casual franchise that creates customizable French fries with four types of fries, five types of meats and more than 20 sauces, seasonings and toppings. The French-Canadian-inspired specialty café also features milkshakes to accompany its quick-serve fries topped with items such as gravy, truffle oil or pulled pork.
