  8. John Q. Coinage says

Wow, the 1/1oth Z broke 25,000 sold!! My 1st day guess was like 17k & it took them a time to get there, this is a bomb…….quick get the last 75,ooo before it’s too latte~
    BC has 10k clad 50c……does any1 even care…..CLAD ugly…….

  9. Einbahnstrasse says

With less than three weeks of sales to go, here once again is the comparison of the Breast Cancer commem sales to the Boys Town low-mintage wonders:

    Gold proof: 10171 / 7147 = 142%
    Gold unc.: 4375 / 2947 = 148%
    Silver proof: 33681 / 31610 = 107%
    Silver unc.: 12210 / 12234 = 99.8%
    Clad proof: 21779 / 23164 = 94.0%
    Clad unc.: 10613 / 15525 = 68.3%

So the clad unc. still looks essentially certain to set a new low-mintage record, but the others have done pretty well in the past month. The clad proof is going to be cutting it close; it needs to sell 1385 units to catch Boys Town, but that’s not outside the realm of possibility….

But as John Q. said, does anyone even care about clad commems any more?

  10. Jerry Diekmann says

Onewaystreet – No, I don’t think very many people care about clad commemoratives any more – or gold orsilver commemoratives either.

  11. CaliSkier says

Einbahnstrasse says: “But as John Q. said, does anyone even care about clad commems any more”?

The answer is no! Not until next years Apollo $.50 will we see any demand for modern clad commemoratives.

The Mint and future l gislatiin should mandate or go back(Classics) to silver planchets with future commemorative $.50’s. These low mintage wonders are within many of the low Classic issues. Not sure what they go for, however age and being made of silver keep these desirable IMO. Perhaps after I quit on the moderns ‘ I’ll start on a Classic $1 or Classic Commemorative $.50 collection?

What has Happened in the past 3 months (85 Days)?

    From Previous Post:

@Ips_stuff,”@cagcrisp can we get a stock “down-date” for collectors universe”

Collectors Universe, Inc. (CLCT). (Parent company of all those PCGS holding coins you have your Full Faith that they will be around years to come)

    • Closing stock price of CLCT on September 17th, 2018, $15.20

    • 52 week range $13.00-$30.82

    • Current dividends of $.175/quarter or currently a 4.61% annual dividend yield

    • I’m Not a fan of High dividend paying stocks

…SO…What has Happened in the past 3 months to CLCT stock?

    • CURRENT stock price of CLCT on December 12th, 2018, = $12.35

    • That’s Down 19% in 85 Days

    • That’s Hitting a New 52 week Low TODAY

    • With a CURRENT stock price of $12.35 that would mean a Dividend Yield of 5.67%

    • I’m Still Not a fan of High dividend paying stocks…

The Mint has Updated their Bullion Sales for December = Dismal

Buffalo Gold Bullion = 1,000 oz.
    AGE Bullion = 1,000 oz.
    ASE Bullion = 225,000 oz.

  14. CaliSkier says

Cag, what’s your thoughts on this years APE potential, value(intrinsic/collectibility) and maybe(?) a final mintage less than 15,000? They are a long way off from the stated 20,000 mintage. The design has been growing on me and will be tracking further(?) Pt decrease/increase leading up to and into the new year.

I know there are lower mintages in Pt series, just wondering since it’s also the beginning of a 3 year series. Since I’m not currently selling any of my coins and I’m thinking a 15-25 year period before desire or need will have me liquidating my collection.

  15. CaliSkier says

Wow, I just looked up Pt Eagle mintages & found that roughly 75% of the PF & UNC/ burnished 1 oz coins have lower mintages than 2018, with some being up to 1/3 the current mintage.

  16. cagcrisp says

@CaliSkier,”Cag, what’s your thoughts on this years APE potential, value(intrinsic/collectibility) and maybe(?) a final mintage less than 15,000? “

I think you answered your own question…

“Wow, I just looked up Pt Eagle mintages & found that roughly 75% of the PF & UNC/ burnished 1 oz coins have lower mintages than 2018, with some being up to 1/3 the current mintage.”

The reason they are currently purchasing the Platinum Proof is the Low price of Platinum vs. comparison prices of Gold and Palladium

The Mint has already announced the Bullion Platinum would be allocated to AP’s in 2019.

That has to mean the Mint is anticipating Demand in 2019 similar io 2018…

  17. CaliSkier says

Cag, I guess to some degree, I got caught up with thoughts about how the 15,000 Bullion and 15,000 Pd coins have been received. On the collector side, there doesn’t appear to be much demand for Pt coinage, based on previous mintages. Makes me wonder why the Mint bothers?
