Mercury hits 50 on Sunday in Milwaukee

Thermometers rose to 50 degrees Sunday in Milwaukee as a high-pressure system continued the sunny, unseasonably balmy weekend.

Milwaukee didn't break a high-temperature record for the day, though — 58 degrees set in 1984, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday and Tuesday are expected to be colder — mid-30s and low 40s — but still well above the normal high temperatures for this time of year. The normal high and low is 32 and 20.

There's a chance for rain on Wednesday night and Thursday, though it doesn't look like southeastern Wisconsin will get a white Christmas. Though Christmas is more than a week away, and it's difficult to accurately predict weather that far out, snow is not in the forecast.

"It looks like we're going to stay away from any precipitation" for Christmas, said Aidan Kuroski, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in Sullivan. "It's possible, but if we do see a system, we could see rain. That could change quite quickly, though."
