LANSING - Police are treating the death of a man found inside a Lansing apartment complex Friday morning as a homicide.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday, officers with the Lansing Police Department were dispatched to the 3600 block of Bayview Drive for a requested welfare check.

Upon arrival, police located Donovan Barfield, 28, of Detroit, unresponsive inside an apartment.

Officials with the Lansing Fire Department also responded and determined Barfield was deceased. His death is being treated as a homicide and it doesn't appear to be a random act, police said in a news release.

"The homicide is the early stages of an ongoing investigation; information is subject to change and will be updated in time," the Saturday news release stated.
