NBB calls for biodiesel credit certainty from Lame Duck Congress

The National Biodiesel Board is calling on Congress to make the biodiesel tax incentive a priority in the Lame Duck.

NBB CEO Donnell Rehagen says a long-term tax credit is far superior to the on again-off again nature the industry has experienced the last 10 years.

“This is a very big piece of unfinished business that they need to take up yet this Congress.”

He tells Brownfield there’s bipartisan support for a multi-year extension of the biodiesel tax incentive that expired last spring.

“It’s just a matter of this tax credit floating to the top of the list of things (Congress) wants to do.  There’s definitely going to be more things that need to be done than they have time for here in the last week of the session, so we just need them to feel the urgency that our industry feels.”

Rehagen says the $1 dollar per-gallon tax credit has helped increase biodiesel production from 100 million gallons in 2005 to 2.6 billion today.
