Oxnard police hunt suspects after shooting kills 1

Oxnard police converged on the 300 block of Magnolia Avenue after a shooting that sent one man to a hospital.

Oxnard authorities are investigating a shooting that left a 29-year-old Oxnard man dead late Thursday afternoon.

The incident was reported at 4:23 p.m. in the 300 block of Magnolia Avenue.

Police arrived and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, where he was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m., authorities said. Oxnard police would provide no further information on the circumstances surrounding the shooting late Thursday.

Police were on the scene for several hours to search for suspects and conduct an investigation. Magnolia Avenue was closed between B and C streets due to the investigation, and the closure was expected to last until about 10 p.m., according to authorities.

The shooting took place in a quiet residential neighborhood on a street lined with single-story homes, several of which were decorated with Christmas lights. Few people were out and about as detectives conducted their investigation, with only the occasional dog walker or driver passing through and being redirected by authorities.

One of the homes seemed to be singled out from the others with police tape.

The shooting is at least Oxnard’s 14th homicide of 2018. The last homicide to be investigated by police occurred on Sept. 23 when 23-year-old Oxnard resident Jorge Gonzalez Tejeda was hit and killed by a sport utility vehicle.
