CCSO: Driver who fled up to 75 mph on Naples-area roads faces multiple charges

Terry Kirkland

One man is in custody after a vehicle chase that began in East Naples ended at Felix Andrew Salons on Pine Ridge Road about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Terry Kirkland, 54, faces multiple charges after he led Collier County Sheriff's Office deputies on a vehicle chase for almost 10 miles, reaching speeds up to 75 mph in a 45 mph zone, an arrest report states.

A deputy reported he attempted to pull Kirkland over At U.S. 41 East and Commercial Drive after he noticed the vehicle Kirkland was driving had an invalid tag.

Kirkland then accelerated and passed several areas where he could have stopped, according to the report. One woman jumped out of the vehicle while it was still moving.

During the pursuit, Kirkland caused damage to Harborside Animal Clinic, 3148 Davis Blvd. The crash caused the rear door of his van to open and air compressors and power tools fell out, the report states.

A deputy and his K-9 followed Kirkland on foot into the hair salon. He was transported to Physician's Regional Medical Center and treated for a dog bite, according to the report.

Several stores in the area locked their doors because a bystander thought Kirkland had a gun. Many customers and employees in the area were startled.

Another man in the vehicle Kirkland was driving said he feared for his life during the pursuit, the report says.

The arrest report states Kirkland's license was revoked on June 25, 1990, and that he had 15 prior convictions of driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Kirkland faces seven charges, including driving with a revoked license, fleeing from law enforcement and high speed/reckless driving. No bond has been set.
