Perdue says passage of farm bill good news

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the new farm bill approved by Congress provides helpful provisions, and much needed security, for ag producers. He calls the 2018 version an “evolutionary” farm bill, “It builds on the ’14 which provided a unique kind of safety net for agriculture primarily with crop insurance as the anchor tenant of that premise.”

While Perdue says he’s disappointed the farm bill doesn’t “improve” SNAP work requirements or forestry management – it does improve conservation, as well as export programs, “It gives us some opportunity for more market access programs and to build other markets.”

Perdue says he’s encouraging President Trump to sign the farm bill with reports suggesting that Trump will do that next week.
