School shooter threat in CASD not credible, district says

Staff report

CHAMBERSBURG - A threat of possible school shooters in the Chambersburg Area School District was found not to be credible, according to a news release from the district.

The incident began at about noon on Wednesday, when student comments about school shooters were overheard and believed to be based on facts, which then created rumors of a threat at the high school.

The release states the administration and district police quickly investigated the situation, and "found no evidence of a credible threat."

"The district hopes to use this unfortunate event to emphasize the importance of speaking to your child about the seriousness of making comments relating to school shootings," the release said. "Off-hand jokes or accusations regarding school violence have serious consequences that disrupt the educational process and can result in criminal prosecution."

Parents with questions about the incident may contact the high school Principal Bradley Ocker at bradley.ocker@casdonline.org or 717-261-3328.
