Attorney for farmers says Syngenta’s $1.51B settlement “fair”

One of the attorneys appointed to the class action case for farmers against Syngenta in the well-known “corn to China” case says the final settlement amount of $1.51 Billion dollars is fair, “Under this settlement, corn farmers from throughout the country who were members of the class will receive real money. This is not a settlement like some class settlements that people have heard about for coupons or minimal amounts of money.” That’s Don Downing with Gray, Ritter & Graham law firm.

There were 650-thousand farmers represented in the case. The settlement, approved by a federal judge in Kansas, will be doled out to farmers based on their corn acres in 2013 through 2017. Downing expects the “handful” of farmers who objected to the settlement to appeal. But he says it’s likely payments will be going out during the second quarter of 2019.
