SAN ANGELO — After reopening his recruitment just 13 days ago, Central High School quarterback Maverick McIvor has recommitted to Texas Tech.

McIvor tweeted the decision about 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018.

"Considering numerous talks with God, Family and Coaches, I have made my decision to recommit to Texas Tech. I can't wait to see what my future holds and I'm excited to start my journey in Lbk!! #wreckem," McIvor wrote on Twitter.

McIvor briefly reopened his recruiting after Texas Tech fired head coach Kliff Kingsbury on Nov. 25.

Kingsbury has since been hired by USC as its offensive coordinator, and there was speculation McIvor might follow him there.

In fact, RedRaiderSports.com reported that McIvor had an official visit set up with USC this weekend, but it has now been cancelled.

Other high-profile schools, including UCLA and the University of Miami, also expressed interest in McIvor during the last two weeks.

"This is a big win for new head coach Matt Wells and his staff," wrote RedRaiderSports.com recruiting analyst Matt Clare. "The market for 2019 quarterback prospects is slim this close to the Early Signing Period.

"Though McIvor was sidelined with a knee injury this season, he remains one of the better signal callers in the state of Texas for the 2019 cycle and this 'recommitment' is a big momentum swing for the new Red Raider coaching staff."

McIvor, the son of former NFL quarterback Rick McIvor, is the Red Raiders' highest-ranked quarterback signee since Patrick Mahomes in the 2014 class.

Mahomes currently leads the NFL with 4,300 passing yards and 43 touchdowns.

McIvor tore his ACL and meniscus in Week 2 of the 2018 season against the Del Rio Rams. This injury caused him to miss the rest of the season.

McIvor had a breakout year in 2017, when he threw for 3,372 yards and 43 touchdowns with eight interceptions. His performance led the Bobcats to an 11-1 record and a fifth straight district championship. McIvor also rushed for 864 yards and eight TDs.

These stats helped McIvor become the Offensive MVP of District 2-6A. He was also an honorable mention all-state selection. The Standard-Times named him MVP of its All-West Texas Super Team.

McIvor received 17 offers from NCAA Division I colleges during the offseason.
