Groups endorse soil health provisions of farm bill

A handful of groups, including the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE), Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2), the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), support farm bill provisions that promote soil health.

New EQIP provisions incentivize management practices that increase drought resiliency, improve nutrient utilization, and enhance carbon sequestration, said Keith Alverson, a South Dakota farmer and a board member of the NCGA.

EQIP helps farmers adopt practices that improve production and enhance ecosystem benefits, said Alverson.

Farmers can get economic value from being properly credited for sequestering carbon and participating in low carbon fuel markets, said Brian Jennings, the CEO of ACE.
