CCSO encourages vigilance from dog walkers with new initiative

Jonathan Foerster, director of community affairs for the Humane Society Naples, Lexie the pitbull mix and CCSO Sgt. Brian Sawyer announce the Paws on Patrol initiative on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is rolling out an initiative to encourage community members to be vigilant while walking their dogs.

CCSO Sgt. Brian Sawyer announced the Paws on Patrol initiative Wednesday in front of the Humane Society Naples.

“Your dog’s time could solve a crime,” Sawyer said. "Typically most people are focused on walking their dog and having the dog do its business. We are asking the community to pay a little bit of attention while you are out walking your dog.”

It is important for dog walkers to carry their cellphones with them to prevent a delay in reporting suspicious activity, Sawyer said.

To help promote Paws on Patrol, the Humane Society Naples is offering free adoptions to the general public of animals older than 4 months until Dec. 23.

In addition, first responders in Collier County are offered free adoptions from Humane Society Naples all year long, the Humane Society's community affairs director Jonathan Foerster said.
