Police find man dead near two public housing complexes in south Lansing

LANSING -- A man was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound in a parking lot behind the Oliver Gardens housing complex Wednesday afternoon. 

Police responded at 12:33 p.m. to a shots fired call near the complex in the 3200 block of S. Washington Avenue, Lansing Police Public Information Director Robert Merritt said.

The victim has not been identified, and police did not immediately have an idea on a suspect. Officers are interviewing witnesses, and ask for anyone who knows anything to come forward. 

They are investigating the man's death as a homicide, Merritt said. 

Everett High School and Cavanaugh Elementary School were secured with restricted access at the request of LPD shortly after the shooting. 

Oliver Gardens is owned and managed by the Lansing Housing Commission. Doug Fleming, interim executive director of the Lansing Housing Commission, said the the commission is cooperating with the police investigation.
