Cool spaces: Space and land are plentiful at 'Graceland' house near Charlotte

CHARLOTTE - Friends and family often refer to Melissa and Lucas Lundberg's home off Island Highway as "the Graceland house."

The four large white columns at the front of the house likely prompted the comparison to Elvis Presley's famous residence in Memphis, Tennessee.

"When we told people where we lived, they would say, 'Oh, you live in Graceland,'" Melissa Lundberg said.

And, while it surprised her at first, she admits she sees the similarities.

The 4,624-square-foot two-story house has a grand appearance, sitting back off the highway in front of a circle driveway.

But Melissa Lundberg said, even though the house offers ample living space and nine-foot ceilings, she never felt lost in it.

"It feels big but once you get into it to doesn’t feel overwhelming," she said.

The couple recently divorced and is selling the property for $349,900.

A space for gatherings

The Lundbergs bought the Island Highway property because they wanted a home where they could host out-of-town family members for holiday gatherings.

“We’ve had 60 people in here before,” Lucas Lundberg said.

Out-of-town family visited often, and the home was the perfect place for them to stay during their visit, Lucas Lundberg said.

The house has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a finished basement. Space just off the first-floor kitchen accommodated the Lundbergs' Amish-made dining room table, which seats eight people.

Nieces and nephews watched movies in the home's theater room, which has authentic seating and a projector. The finished basement is where guests played pool and where Lucas Lundberg stored his home-brewing equipment.

Large windows let plenty of light into the house. The second-floor master bedroom offers a balcony overlooking the first floor and a huge walk-in closet. The home boasts two laundry rooms, one just off the master bedroom.

In the last five years, the Lundbergs replaced carpet throughout the ground floor with tile and hickory flooring. Lucas Lundberg added a wood stove in the living room, cutting wood to feed it from the property.

The couple remodeled several rooms throughout the house.

"Pretty much every floor has been redone," Melissa Lundberg said.

'Privacy and quiet'

Lucas Lundberg says the home itself is "huge," but he loved the land it came with more than any feature inside the house.

The home sits on nearly 10 acres. Deer, turkey and coyotes are often seen on the property, which includes a dirt-bike and walking path.

"The land is what I love," he said.

Melissa Lundberg said the property's biggest selling point could be "privacy and quiet."

"There's space inside and outside the house," she said. "It’s set back on the land. It’s quiet."

And it would be perfect for a large family, she said.

"There’s space to move around," she said. "You can have family over. It would suit a big family who likes to be in the country."
