American Farm Bureau: Lawmakers could consider the 2018 Farm Bill this week

American Farm Bureau Executive Vice President Dale Moore says the new farm bill will be unveiled this week.

“Maybe as early as Wednesday,” he says. “We also know that on the Senate side, Mitch McConnell from Kentucky has been a strong proponent and he and Chairman Roberts have been working diligently to be ready for this farm bill conference report to come together.”

Moore says although details of the bill have been scarce, House and Senate ag committee leaders have been working hard to roll out the bill.

“Farm bills are kind of like milk left on the counter- you don’t want to leave it out on the counter because they start to curdle pretty quick,” he says. “We know that it’s going to be positive for farmers and ranchers and they’re going to be some adjustments to the key provisions.”

A vote on the 2018 Farm Bill is expected this week.

Moore spoke at the Indiana Farm Bureau Convention on Saturday.
