Accused voyeur filmed unsuspecting gym members, posted on Tumblr, police say

An accused peeping tom made his cache of photos and videos of unsuspecting women and men — taken at gyms and other places — very public when he posted them on his Tumblr page, charging documents.

David Allexander Oris, 32, of the 200 block of West Main Street, Elizabethville, Dauphin County, was arrested on Nov. 30 and faces several charges, including invasion of privacy and unlawful use of a computer, documents state.

Oris posted bail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 2 before District Judge Scott J. Gross, according to online court dockets.

Oris could not be reached for comment Sunday.

Tumblr account 'publicvoyeurspy'

Newberry Township Police began investigating the case in June, when Emily Goodling, owner of Anytime Fitness, located in the township, told them Oris, a former member, may have posted photos and videos of other members online, documents state.  

Police examined the account "publicvoyeurspy" on social media website Tumblr and found more than 700 pictures and videos of people in places such as gyms and stores, documents state.

Investigators were able to determine Oris was the individual creating the photos and videos, documents state.

"The vast majority of the photos depict females and give specific reference or focus on intimate parts such as breasts and buttocks," documents state.

Some of the videos and photos are accompanied by "explicit comments referencing intimate body parts of the person depicted," according to documents.

In addition, while searching Oris' online cache of videos and photographs, police uncovered three photos of a man "in a state of full nudity" while getting out of a shower in the locker room at Gold's Gym in Manchester, documents state.

Police interviewed the man and determined he did not know he was being photographed and did not consent to them being posted online, documents state.

When police interviewed Oris at Gold's Gym in Manchester on June 28, he admitted he had made the account "publicvoyeurspy" and posted photos and videos to it from his cellphone.

Seizing the cellphone, police had a forensic exam performed on it.

Oris also told the police the men and women depicted on his Tumblr account were not aware of what he was doing. Police enlisted the help of Tumblr, and the website sent evidence of more than 1,700 photos and videos from Oris' account, the majority of which focused on female intimate parts and male bodies, documents state.

Police were able to identify 21 men and women from Oris' Tumblr account and spoke with 12 of them. All 12 said they were unaware Oris was photographing or recording them and did not give their consent for him to post them online, documents state.

Charges

Oris faces one count each of unlawful use of a computer, criminal use of a communication facility and invasion of privacy, and also 21 counts each of two different subsections of the invasion of privacy charge.

Other cases of explicit photos and social media

In September, Damoni Jachi Weaver, 21, of the 900 block of East Poplar Street, York, told a girl he had a foot fetish and requested photos of her feet, but when she rejected him, he allegedly continued to harass her, using numerous aliases on text, Snapchat and Facebook. He also sent her photos and a video of a "naked penis," according to charging documents.

Weaver, of the 900 block of East Poplar Street, York, faces one count each of stalking and harassment by communications - lewd, threatening language, documents state.

The next month, a York Haven man allegedly sent photos of his penis to several underage girls, then threatened to hurt one of the girls if she told anyone what he had done, according to an arrest warrant.

Kody Wayne Slesser, 20, of the 100 block of Reeser Drive, also asked for and received nude photos of the girls, the warrant states.

In 2016, a Hanover man pleaded guilty to aggravated indecent assault  and received a sentence of 11-and-a-half months to 23 months in prison. Gary D. Forry, 40, of the 300 block of North Franklin Street, allegedly took nude and partially nude photos while a woman was sleeping.

Later the same year, Brett McEvers, 36, of Walnut Street, Hanover, pleaded guilty in York County Court to the second-degree misdemeanor of unlawful dissemination of an intimate image.

McEvers admitted he posted nude photos of his ex-girlfriend on popular website Craigslist. He was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to pay court costs and submit to a mental-health evaluation and counseling as directed, court records state.
