Dead man found in Gulf off Naples in 2002; help still needed to identify him

Detectives have released an updated composite sketch in hopes of identifying a dead man found floating in the Gulf of Mexico in 2002.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office investigators said the man found about 2 miles north of Doctors Pass in Naples was 5-foot-11 and weighed about 190 pounds.   

Collier County Sheriff's Office detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying a man, whose body was found in 2002.

He had blue eyes and was 45 to 60 years old. His hair was reddish brown and gray and nearly collar length. He had a gray beard and mustache, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The man was wearing black cutoff denim shorts but no shoes or shirt, according to the incident report when he was found. 

His body, found floating face up May 3, 2002, was reported to the Sheriff's Office by a passing boater, according to the report. His death does not appear to be suspicious, according to investigators. 

Authorities asked that anyone with information about the man call Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).  All callers can remain anonymous.
