Utility and IRS scams reported in Chambersburg: police log

Chambersburg area

Scam warning: Chambersburg Police Department has received reports about a utility scam in which a caller tells residents they are past-due on their utility bill and must pay or their power will be shut off. The borough does not do this. When in doubt, call the borough at 717-264-5151 or police at 717-264-5161. 

Nov. 14: A warrant has been filed against Gabriella Ayala, who allegedly stole four iRobot vacuums, valued at $1,249.96, from Target. 

Nov. 21: A resident reported a bus struck their vehicle at about 1 p.m. in the 100 block of South Fourth Street,  Chambersburg Police said. 

Nov. 28: A 32-year-old Chambersburg man lost $2,300 in an IRS scam, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Nov. 29: Two people may have sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash at about 7:47 a.m. at the intersection of Walker and Kohler roads, Greene Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Dec. 1: A package was stolen off a front porch in the 300 block of South Fifth Street between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., Chambersburg Police said.

Dec. 3: Two people were taken to Chambersburg Hospital with suspected minor injuries following a two-vehicle crash at about 2:20 p.m. at the intersection of Black Gap and Coldspring roads, Greene Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Dec. 5: Nanette Duke, 49, Newburg, and Cheryl Flagle, 28, Chambersurg, were both charged with harassment after police responded to a report of a disturbance at about 12:15 p.m. on Audubon Court, Greene Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Dec. 6: Abram Helman was charged with misdemeanor harassment for allegedly writing lewd and obscene words toward another person, Chambersburg Police said. 

Greencastle area

Dec. 3: A vehicle struck a fence on Marion Road, Antrim Township, at about 5 a.m. after the driver, a Chambersburg woman, applied the breaks quickly in wet road conditions after almost missing a stop sign, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Dec. 4: An unknown vehicle struck a mailbox at about 11:50 a.m. on Grindestone Hill Road, Antrim Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Mercersburg area

Nov. 23: Nobody was injured in a two-vehicle crash at about 3:30 p.m. on Lincoln Way West, Peters Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Dec. 2-4: A 19-year-old Mercersburg man harassed and assaulted a 79-year-old man following an argument on Fort Loudon Road, Peters Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Dec. 4: A Greencastle man was taken to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md., will suspected minor injuries after he failed to negotiate a curve and his vehicle struck a large tree stump and an embankment and overturned at about 5:42 p.m. on Cool Hollow Road, Montgomery Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
