Microsoft adds five more states to rural broadband initiative

Microsoft says it’s expanding its broadband initiative to reach more rural Americans. Last year, the company said it would connect 2-million more people in remote areas of the U.S., but this week said it will increase that to 3-million people by 2022.
That would bring the total to 25 states served by this time next year. Indiana is one of the new states added. Other Brownfield states included are Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Microsoft’s Airband Initiative uses unlicensed wireless TV white spaces that became available after analog television transitioned to digital.
