Joy Behar and Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, have butted heads more than a few times on ABC’s “The View.” But their exchanges were especially heated on December 4, when Behar and McCain during a segment on the passing of former president George H. W. Bush. And, according to the Daily Mail, the tension between Behar and McCain has reached the point where Behar is threatening to leave the popular daytime talk show.

Bush, the United States’ 41st president, died on Friday, November 30 at the age of 94, and a recurring theme in the mainstream media—even among some liberals like veteran New York Times journalist Maureen Dowd—is that Bush 41 was capable of being polite to Democrats despite policy differences with them. That theme was very much at work on “The View” on December 4, with host Whoopi Goldberg pointing to Bush as an example of “how you can not agree with somebody but be respectful of somebody. That’s the thing I think I dug the most: him rolling with Bill Clinton.”

The 76-year-old Behar, an outspoken liberal and frequent critic of President Donald Trump, spoke favorably of Bush 41’s environmental record and noted that he signed into law an amendment to the Clean Air Act in 1990. Behar quickly added that Trump, in comparison, has a terrible environmental record—and McCain interrupted, curtly saying, “Can we focus on the president, please? I don’t want to talk about Trump.”

Behar shot back that she didn’t care what McCain wanted to talk about—she was making a point. That’s when “The View” cut to a commercial, and according to The Daily Mail, the tension escalated off-air.

The Daily Mail alleges that off the air, Behar said of McCain, “Get this bi*ch under control…. I’ve tolerated a lot of shit on this show, but I’m at my wits’ end with this entitled b*tch. Enough already! Enough already! I’m not playing nice any longer.”

The Daily Mail also quoted Behar as saying, “If this sh*t doesn’t stop, I’m quitting this damn show. I can’t take this much more.”

The report also claimed staffers mock McCain as an "ice princess" for her cold demeanor.

The 34-year-old McCain, a conservative Republican who has often been critical of Trump—not unlike her father—was one of the hosts of Fox News’ “Outnumbered” but left that program and joined “The View” in October 2017. Behar, meanwhile, has been with “The View” since its inception in 1997.
