PennDOT renumbering state route in Northern York County — what you need to know

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced it would be renumbering a state route in Northern York County in the next coming weeks.

State Route 295, through Newberry and Conewago townships, will be renumbered State Route 297, according to a recent PennDOT release.

Traffic news

The change comes shortly after a portion of Interstate 95 in Bucks County was renamed Interstate 295. Due to the potential conflict involved in having two major Pennsylvania traffic routes designated as 295, it was decided that a renumbering was necessary, according to the release.

PennDOT plans to complete updates to the existing route signing by the end of the month — that includes any existing directional signing for roads that intersect the state route and electronic maps issued by PennDOT.

Sign updates for the large green Advance Guide Signs on Interstate 83 may take additional time as they are not serviced by PennDOT.
