More stops on the Canadian Ag Technology Tour

Some of the other interesting stops on the Global Affairs Canada Ag Technology Media Tour:

Deepwater Farms, Calgary’s first commercial aquaponic farm. Raising barramundi (Australian sea bass), then using fish waste to grow leafy greens under LED lighting. Selling to 30 restaurants and groceries. They want to take the process worldwide.

Composites Innovations Centre in Winnipeg. They’ve made tractor hoods and fenders for Versatile using hemp and agave fibers. 50% reduction in use of synthetic fibers. Currently being field tested.

Mirexus Biotechnologies in Guelph. They’re extracting a natural ingredient from sweet corn to produce skin care and anti-aging products. Planning to move into nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals as well.
