'He should be nervous': Former DOJ attorney lays out just how close Mueller is to nailing Trump
Leaked draft court filings from special counsel Robert Mueller’s office show that conspiracy theorist Jerome Corsi in 2016 used his connections with WikiLeaks to relay information to Trump associate Roger Stone — and CNN legal analyst Laura Coates said the president should be sweating if he’s not already.
While discussing the latest major revelations about the Russia investigation on CNN Tuesday, Coates said that these filings potentially draw a straight line from WikiLeaks to President Donald Trump himself.
“If there’s somebody who has a direct connection to Julian Assange and a direct connection to WikiLeaks, and who knows in advance there’s a coordinated attack to influence the 2016 presidential election, he should be nervous,” she said.
She also laughed off the notion that all of these meetings with Russian agents during the 2016 campaign had nothing to do with Trump himself.
“There’s not this many coincidences in the entire existence of humanity,” she said. “This would have to be as coincidental as, I don’t know, the ‘Big Bang’ theory at this point in time… No prosecutor puts in writing what they do not have evidence to support — and has been corroborated, and has been verified by multiple sources.”
The bottom line, she said, is that Mueller seems to have a lot of evidence to back up his findings, and Trump should be fearful of what he turns up.
“Mueller isn’t acting on a broomstick or a witch hunt,” she said. “He’s acting on actual facts.”
