Crews contain vegetation blaze in Santa Clara River bottom in Oxnard

Crews battled a vegetation fire early Wednesday in the Santa Clara River bottom near the Wagon Wheel area of Oxnard.

Dispatchers received a report at 12:18 a.m. of an explosion in the river bottom. The incident soon was confirmed as a vegetation fire. 

Arriving fire crews said the fire was along Ventura Road south of the railroad trestle, which is just south of Highway 101. 

Crews said it was a small spot fire measuring about 25 feet by 50 feet. It was quickly contained to that size.
