Ethanol groups unhappy with Chevron waiver announcement

Ethanol groups are criticizing the latest small refinery exemption granted by the EPA.

RFA President Geoff Cooper calls Tuesday’s announcement of a retroactive 2017 hardship waiver for Chevron a “blatant abuse” of the small refiner waivers.  Cooper says when Chevron’s net profits surpass the value of the Iowa corn crop it’s a “new level of absurdity.”

American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says it is insulting that EPA has found time to grant nearly 50 Small Refinery Exemptions but won’t release a rule for year-round E15 until February.

As of last year, Chevron is ranked number nineteen on the list of Fortune 500 companies and registered profits ranging from 8.42% to 10.11% in the last four quarters.
