Minnesota farmer says crops okay “all things considered”

A southeast Minnesota farmer says his crops did pretty well this year all things considered.

Tony Secora grows corn and soybeans in Steele County.  He tells Brownfield 2018 was wet.

“Just finished harvest about 10 days ago, and it was kind of up and down.  The beans were pretty good, corn was hit and miss.  Some corn was good, some corn was bad.  It all kind of varied on the area and when it got planted.”

Secora says he planted into some rough conditions this spring.

“(crop) was a little thin (and there) were places with compaction issues.  And now the freeze up came a little early (and) there’s a lot of tillage left to do around us.  I can’t say for sure yet, but the way it looks some of that probably ain’t going to get done this fall.”

He’s anticipating a challenging start to 2019 given the amount of fieldwork that didn’t get done this fall.
