Farmer wraps up harvest, pleased with results

A north central Indiana farmer says he was able to wrap up harvest before wind and wet conditions caused too much damage to crops.

Mike Beard grows corn and soybeans in Clinton County.

“We think we salvaged significant amounts by getting in versus some of my neighbors who are claiming a 20-50-bushel loss with the corn that has fallen over and is almost impossible for them to pick up,” he says. “That really makes a good year pretty sour.”

He tells Brownfield although it wasn’t the record crop he expected, he was pleased with his yields.

“It turned out to be just a little shy of my expectations, but those expectations were higher than my yields had ever been,” he says.

Beard is now working on fall manure application. He says he’s been delayed for about three weeks because of cool and wet conditions.
