INFB meets with legislators to discuss 2019 priorities

Indiana Farm Bureau leaders met with legislators to discuss policy priorities for 2019.

Priories include expanding broadband deployment, incentivizing rural revitalization, increasing rural school funding, restoring the Kankakee and Yellow rivers, reducing extraterritorial authority, and improving assessment uniformity and local government funding.

Indiana Farm Bureau hosted its annual organization day breakfast Tuesday at the Indiana Statehouse.

Indiana Farm Bureau President Randy Kron says the event gives the organization the opportunity to discuss issues that are important to Indiana’s farmers ahead of the legislative session.

INFB’s policy creation process begins with the county Farm Bureaus. The recommendations are brought before a resolutions committee  before they reach the delegate session, which took place on Aug. 25. After the delegate session, the INFB board of directors identified key priorities.

Katrina Hall, INFB director of public policy, says several priorities involve funding because 2019 is a budget year in the General Assembly. She says members are interested in improving funding for rural school programs like FFA.
