“The View” on Tuesday erupted over a new report detailing Ivanka Trump’s use of a personal account to send emails about government business, with conservatives Meghan McCain and Abby Huntsman attempting to downplay the significance of that news while the rest of the panel zeroed in on Trump’s hypocrisy given Donald Trump’s attack on Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election.

“You what’s amazing is that this girl was there in 2016,” Joy Behar noted. “I mean, was she in a convent? She was watching TV just like the rest of us. How dumb can a person be to go and make the same mistake that he has been bitching about the whole time? I mean, people, wake up.”

After Whoopi Goldberg noting Trump claimed to be unclear about how and when government email accounts get used, Sunny Hostin argued the “first daughter” is “playing ignorance.”

“I worked in the Justice Department for seven years,” Hostin said. “It’s one of the first things they tell you.”

“I call B.S. on, ‘I didn't know better,’” she added. “It's the height of hypocrisy, quite frankly. She knew that her father, what was one of the things he ran on, it was a significant part of his plat for platform.” Hostin went on to describe the move as emblematic of “the kind of nepotism in the White House.”

“They’re breaking rules left and right,” Goldberg remarked.

“We want to talk about hypocrisy, we'll be here all day long because the list can go on and on,” Hunstman claimed.

“That's true,” Behar replied. “Everything that he said about her, he’s doing”

“Can the Republicans talk?” McCain interjected.

Huntsman conceded that Trump’s use of a personal email account is hypocritical, but argued that having exchanged emails with Trump herself, she knows if Democrats investigate there won’t be a “there” there.

“I think it's hypocritical,” McCain agreed. “And one of your dad's tag-lines is ‘lock her up’ about an e-mail controversy, that you should know the difference for that reason for that reason alone. I will say let us not forget Hillary had e-mails deleted by a computer specialist as she had her aides smash her devices with a hammer.”

Goldberg asked if it makes a difference what Clinton did with her emails.

“I'm trying to explain the Republican side of this,” McCain said.

“But it provoked the question, does that change the fact that people are using their personal e-mails?” Goldberg asked. “Regardless of how they did it, but does it change the fact that they are using personal e-mails?”

“Destroying e-mails during an investigation is still different and smashing devices with a hammer to me is still different,” McCain replied. “Do I think it's hypocritical? 100%. Do I think she should have known better? 100%, but I agree with Abby on this one; we should be more concerned about—and my father said this—when a car alarm is going off every day, you get desensitized to what's important. We should be fearful of our president using his personal phone. I care much more about that.”

“This would not be the number one topic I would choose for this show today given the opportunity,” McCain later argued.

“Oh, it's mine,” Behar said. “Absolutely.”

“Why does she get a pass?” Hostin wondered.

“I’m not giving her a pass,” McCain complained. “But of all the things the Democrats could be focused on—“

“You're saying this is not that important,” Hostin shot back. “This is a matter of national security.”

That’s when McCain melted down over the topic, repeatedly shouting it’s “ridiculous” that her co-hosts care about Ivanka Trump’s emails.
