Indiana poultry producers donate to Hoosiers in need ahead of the holidays

Indiana poultry producers are doing their part to feed Hoosiers in need ahead of the holiday season.

Indiana State Poultry Association Executive Vice President Paul Brennan says poultry producers donated 75 tons of poultry products this year.

“It’s a recognition of how blessed we are, how fortunate we are to have had this abundance in Indiana that we can produce this, and how fortunate as a nation we are,” he says.”

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb accepted the 71st annual holiday poultry donation at the Indiana Statehouse Monday morning.

“This is quintessential Hoosier- it’s Hoosiers helping Hoosiers in need,” he says. “And when you think of the agricultural component of it-feeding someone and their family- there’s no more noble cause than that. it’s a proud day for us.”

The poultry products donated during the annual event were donated to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana.

The donation also highlights the strength of Indiana’s poultry sector. Indiana ranks number one in duck production, second in egg production, and third in turkeys raised.

Annually, the poultry sector contributes more than $9.5 billion to the state’s economy.
