Momentum building for 2018 Farm Bill

Momentum is building for the 2018 Farm Bill.

National Farmers Union president Roger Johnson says the four principal negotiators seem to be getting close to a deal.

And speaking to Brownfield at the Minnesota Farmers Union convention in Minneapolis over the weekend, Johnson pointed to another positive signal from within the last week.

“Leader McConnell in the Senate and a group of Republican Senators met with the President, and the farm bill was discussed as one of those items that needed to be done before the end of the year.  When you get the President and the leadership saying this is a priority, it’s probably going to happen.”

House Ag Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson said during a speech at the convention in Minnesota Saturday he’d like to have the farm bill completed before Congress breaks for Christmas.
