Road reopened after gas line ruptured in Ventura

VENTURA – A ruptured gas line in Ventura shut down a city thoroughfare for several hours Monday morning, officials said.

The incident was reported just after 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of Telephone Road and Scandia Avenue.

Fire personnel responded to the scene and found a 2-inch gas line that had been reportedly ruptured by a construction crew, according to Ventura City Fire Department Assistant Chief Matt Brock.

Both directions of Telephone Road were closed between Jasper and South Saticoy avenues from about 10 a.m. to noon, said Ventura County fire officials. Southern California Gas Company personnel also responded to the scene.

Residents and occupants of businesses in the area were advised to shelter in place.

Brock said the leak was controlled by 11:40 a.m. No injuries were reported and no one was treated for gas exposure, Brock said.
