Saturday's 30-Second Read: More Shreveport kindness

Random thoughts, anecdotes and specks of whimsy from Jeff Gauger

Our joint venture to highlight acts of kindness is catching on. The "30-Second Read" headquarters has received loads of examples.

It all started with an Oct. 31 essay, prompted by a reader, to encourage kindness by sharing kind acts here.

Jeff Gauger, executive editor, USA Today Network, Shreveport and Monroe, Louisiana

Today, from an email, comes another act of kindness, from Brenda Hixson. Here's Brenda:

"A couple months ago, my husband and I were having lunch at a Chinese buffet on Pines Road. A young man sat across from us, and we started talking to him. He said he was an oil field worker from south Louisiana.

"When I had finished eating I went outside while my husband finished. When he came out, he said, 'Did you pay the bill?'

"It turned out that the young man had paid it and just left. We don't even know his name or address. We could not even thank him.

"We would just like to let him know he made an elderly couple feel wonderful. If he reads this, we appreciate how nice he was to us."
