Duffy pleased wolf de-listing bill passes House
Congressman Sean Duffy (R-7th WI)
The House of Representatives has passed legislation that would remove gray wolves from the endangered species list. Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy authored the bill, and tells Brownfield he has strong support, but the vote was closer than he wanted. “We had whipped the bill and knew it was going to pass if everyone showed up, but with some absences, we weren’t quite certain how we were going to do on the floor, so there was a flurry of activity and the bill passed.”
But the bill must also pass the U.S. Senate, and Duffy says with time running out, the Senate might not pass it as a stand-alone bill. Duffy says, “My hope is that in some of the must-pass packages, bills that are coming up between now and the end of the year, that this wolf bill will be part of that package and we will still get it done.”
Duffy spoke on the House floor, saying this is one of the rare issues that Presidents Obama and Trump agreed on, and returning wolf management to the states will be better for livestock, pets, deer, bear, and the environment.
Efforts to de-list the wolf have been widely supported by agriculture groups including Wisconsin Farmers Union and Wisconsin Farm Bureau.
Environmental groups including the Natural Resources Defense Council have already criticized the passage of Duffy’s bill and will lobby the Senate to defeat it. Duffy tells Brownfield, “If you love animals, then you should want to manage the wolf population because whether it’s livestock or pets, or the deer population, the wolf has a huge impact on all of (the) wildlife and that’s why we want to make sure the ecosystem is correctly balanced.”
Those dang environmentalists – they think they know everything. I dare them to run into a pack of wolves & their lively hood being ravaged by them. THEY HAVE KNOW CLUE! That is like saying ALL ILLEGALS should be treated like EVERYONE who comes here the LEGAL WAY.
