ASA president says it’s been a tough year

The president of the American Soybean Association says it’s been a rough year for soybean growers, “Losing your number one customer has been tough this year. We look forward to all the new trade partners, but we put them all together and they still don’t make up for a China.”

John Heisdorffer, ASA president and Iowa farmer, tells Brownfield the trade war tariffs hit ALL farmers on SO many levels, not just soybeans, “Also, steel and aluminum. You know, those tariffs affect us just as much. All of our equipment is made out of steel, our storage facilities, our livestock shelters are steel or aluminum.”

He says there’s a glimmer of hope, “MAYBE the president (Trump) will meet with President Xi from China at the G20 Summit and maybe we can get them back to the negotiation table here. And that would be great for farmers.” The G20 Summit is November 30th and December 1st in Argentina.
