Naples man, 79, dies after being struck by motorcycle in Golden Gate Estates

This is an emergency scene including both a fire engine and an ambulance.

A Naples man died after he was struck by a motorcycle about 6 a.m. Tuesday in Golden Gate Estates.

James Walker, 79, was struck while he was outside his vehicle, which was stopped, with its headlights on, in the lane for westbound traffic  on 14th Avenue Northeast near Everglades Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Jose Cano, 29, the driver of the motorcycle, tried to swerve to avoid Walker, according to the report. But the front of the motorcycle hit Walker, knocking him onto a grassy shoulder, FHP reported.

Cano’s motorcycle then overturned on the grassy shoulder. Cano, who was not wearing a helmet, wasn't injured, troopers said.

Charges against Cano are pending, according to the FHP.
