Perdue hopes ‘China will see the error of its ways’

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue says trade normalization with China is up to that country.

“If they could change the things they’re doing that we find objectionable then we’d start trading right away,” said Perdue, in comments provided by the USDA, “but they haven’t shown a willingness to do that.”

Perdue says normal trading could resume right away if China “will see the error of its ways as far as intellectual property theft and transfer.”

Later this month, President Trump and Chinese President Xi meet at the G20 Summit possibly to discuss trade.

Soybean prices gained strength late last week reacting to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin’s phone conversation with China’s vice premier. The two talked about easing tensions so negotiations can start.
