Milwaukee Zoo names new director of animal management and health

The Milwaukee County Zoo's new director of animal management and health started his duties this month.

Gary Lunsford manages all of the zoo's animal division programs, facilities, staff and animals, overseeing a $4.9 million budget and 70 employees.

Lunsford came from Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he was director of zoological operations. He managed the Winnipeg zoo's animal care, veterinary services, conservation and research.

Before Winnipeg, Lunsford, who has 23 years of experience, worked at zoos in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. He also serves on the board of directors of Canada's Accredited Zoos and Aquariums.
