Ethanol exports on pace to set a new record

The President and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association says ethanol exports are expected to set a new record.

“Somewhere in the range of 1.6-1.7 billion gallons,” he says.

Geoff Cooper tells Brownfield that means the U.S. will export more than 10 percent of the ethanol produced this year.

“One out of every ten gallons of our product is going off shore today,” he says. “That’s remarkable when you think about how 10 years ago we weren’t exporting hardly any ethanol. So we’ve really come a long way in developing export markets over the past decade.”

He says there are still challenges because of the trade dispute with China and reopening those markets remains a priority.

Cooper spoke to Brownfield at the 2018 NAFB Convention in Kansas City.
