Lansing man charged with using Snapchat to solicit sexual relationship with 14-year-old

TRAVERSE CITY — A Lansing man is accused of using social media to solicit a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl, police say. 

Tyler Kandler, 21, was charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime in Leelanau County. He was arraigned Nov. 9 in Traverse City. 

The Leelanau County Sheriff's Department said the 14-year-old's mother notified a police officer of inappropriate communications between her daughter and Kandler. The two were talking on Snapchat, a social networking app where chats and media disappear after viewing them.

Kandler was released from jail on $15,000 bail. He is not allowed to use social media for any purpose other than speaking to his wife. He is also not allowed to have contact with anyone under 18, except for his own children.
